A member asked:

Hsv-1 and 2 combo igg test done. hsv-1 was negative. hsv-2 was positive at 1.22 index, so lab then did inhibition assay which showed <60% negative. so now is this considered a true negative or still ambiguous? no recent risk/exposure within 2 yrs.

Ask ordering doctor: The ordering doctor knows what the numbers mean because the numbers have to be viewed in the context of a patient's entire medical picture. That's the way it is. However, the HSV-2 IgG inhibition assay is a method for distinguishing such false-positive results from true-positive results. If the inhibition assay says negative, that means the whole process arrived at a negative result for HSV-2 IgG.
