No disinfection: No disinfection is necessary. The herpes virus is not transmitted by contact with surfaces or the environment. The only prevention strategy that makes sense is no kissing by the person with the cold sore. To be extra safe, wash drinking and eating utensils after the infected person uses them, but even these rarely are risky. Don't worry about this!
