Doctor can check: Normal lymph nodes do not hurt, unless somebody squeezes them too strongly. If they become painful or enlarged, especially if it happens in more than one location, a doctor's evaluation is done to look for inflammation or infection. One's primary care doctor is the person to begin with, and he can refer a specialist if needed.
