Not uncommon: The newborn stomach is positioned next to the breathing muscle & it is thought that this position triggers the hiccups if the stomach rubs it. It likely bothers you more than baby & usually fades as the kid grows longer/older. I wouldn't waste time trying to treat something that will disappear when its ready.
