Tachycardia: Your heart rate can temporarily rise while or after a coughing spasm but a resting heart rate of 101 is abnormal and can be caused by fever,overactive thyroid, abnormal cardiac rhythms, stimulants like alcohol, caffeine,nicotine and certain medications. I recommend an evaluation by a physician and testing including an EKG, thyroid tests,cbc.
