A member asked:

Small egg shaped bump that appears occasionally in abdomen, where hernias seem to happen. no pain, and bump goes away. strange thing is it only shows up when laying down, not standing up or exercising. this seems to be opposite of info on hernia?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Bump: If the bump is in the very middle of the abdomen this may not be a hernia but diastasis recti which is a separation of the 2 muscles on either side of the midline of the abdominal wall. This bump becomes accentuated when you're lying down and tighten the abdominal muscle by lifting only your head off the pillow. When the wall is relaxed there is no bump as the muscles come back together
