Time to see a doctor: Random intermittent brief chest pains means one should talk with her doctor. In young adults, chest pain could very rarely be a heart attack. It more likely is something such as myocarditis, pericarditis, other heart symptoms, costochondritis (inflamed rib cartilage), pleurisy, or anxiety attack symptoms. The ER can evaluate, if a patient is not able to contact a primary care doctor.
