When will we find out if this year's flu vaccine is a hit or miss?

Eventually: At any one time there are 6-8 strains of seasonal flu circling the globe.The mfg of a vaccine includes 3-4 of the most common/season & will protect against those strains.With international flights there is always a mixture of less common strains around.Whether or not it will protect you is a random event. There is hope for a new vaccine universal coverage in the future but this is the best we have
