Life is not perfect: A condom is not 100% effective in preventing infections because a condom only covers the penis, but not any part of the woman, and not other parts of the man's skin that rub on the woman. So, one can ask the person on the other end of said condom if there are diseases present (if that question wasn't already discussed pre-sex). Otherwise, ask one's primary care or Ob-Gyn doctor for STD testing.

Vaginal infection: Any foreign left in the vagina for more than a few days -- condoms, forgotten tampons, etc -- result in bacterial overgrowth and often strong odor and discharge (similar to bacterial vaginosis). Whether it's an actual infection isn't always certain. If you discahrge or odor 7-10 days after removing the condom, see a doctor for further evaluation. Best to avoid sex in the meantime. Good luck.
