A member asked:

When do cafe au lait spots dur to neurofibromatosis stop appearing? would a person have them by the time they are a certain age if they are linked to neurofibromatosis, or can they pop up in their 30s?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Some basics: NF1 clinical diagnosis requires 6 or more cafe-au-lait patches at least 5 mm in greatest diameter before puberty & 15 mm after puberty. In addition 2 or more neurofibromas, a plexiform neuroma, axillary freckling, lisch nodules, optic gliomas or an affected 1st degree relative. If you are preoccupied with NF1 see a geneticist for an eval.
