BV? Trichomonas?: The main causes of strong vaginal odor, often but not always with discharge, are trichomonas (an STD) and bacterial vaginosis, an overgrowth of mostly normal bacteria. BV is more common in women with other STDs, e.g. gonorrhea and chlamydia. The main treatment for both BV and trich is metronidazole; discuss w/ your doctor or arrange evaluation by a gyn or STD expert.
