Prob viral infection: Symptoms you describe are common with viral infections, especially influenza or adenovirus. If your child is alert and will take some fluids or solids, treating fever symptoms for 2-3 days is reasonable, but fevers after 3 days should always be evaluated in a toddler. Also, if your child had an underlying cold with runny nose, and then developed a few, assessment now is indicated.
