Hand/foot/mouth: There are several strains of gut virus that produce a pattern referred to as hand/foot/mouth disease. It is common in childhood & eventually self heals with no meds. It can be confused with some other viral illnesses in the early stages.

Coxsackie virus: or hand, foot and mouth disease is a common viral illness, mostly occurring in the summertime. Antibiotics will not treat this as it is a virus. Pain medications such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen are given for the pain. Make sure your child is drinking plenty of fluids as they can get dehydrated as a consequence of not drinking enough fluids because of the pain.
