Yes he should: If he was always drinking heavily and daily, there's a good chance that he is now withdrawing. In order to prevent more withdrawal and going into delirium tremens, he should be seen by a doctor for evaluation and treatment. May require cutting down on alcohol gradually and possibly benzodiazepine treatment.
