A member asked:

Gave birth naturally just over 3 weeks ago. normal bleeding slowly reducing to hardly anything but just had a thick substance come out, almost skin like. dry/ sticky and dark in colour. normal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Discharge ?'s: On occasion, all of the placental tissue does not detach (as in a "satellite lobe" of the placenta) at birth, which can cause persistent bleeding until uterine contractions eventually express the remainder. Bleeding should quickly resolve, but if not, see your OB for an exam.
