A member asked:

My 6 month old son has elevated mma levels. im anxiously awaiting the results. what could this be? neuro appointment isnt for 2 weeks

A doctor has provided 1 answer

MMA: Methyl melonic acidemia is a metabolic abnormality triggered by an inherited (recessive) abnormality in an enzyme system. That error results in a buildup of MMA in the blood. The condition varies in intensity based on which of many errors is responsible. It often presents with neuro issues which need management but my choice for education/help would be a metabolic specialist (children's hospital)
