I ran out of xanax and was wondering if i could take ativan to replace it so i dont experience withdrawal.

Xanax : Ativan can be used to prevent withdrawal of Xanax, but this is not best done without consulting a doctor. The dosing needs to be considered. In general, Xanax is often overused by most patients due to its addictive nature. I have never seen a patient who was given Xanax for more than 2 months that I felt was using it for their benefit. It masks emotions so the patient is less likely to improve.
