Try warm compresses: If the area of redness or swelling is less than 1 inch in diameter, warm compresses usually will help the infection come to a head so it can opened and drained or if smaller, it will heal itself. Oral pain medications like ibuprofen are helpful. If the area of swelling or redness is significantly larger, an evaluation by your doctor is recommended as antibiotics may be indicated.
