A member asked:

I am currently on birth control.i took the 3 month injection.since being on the injection i have been experiencing severe "period" pains and bleeding. i bled for 1 month straight with continuous pain it stopped for awhile and has returned.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

An adjustment period: Bleeding is usually minimal after 2 or 3 injections, but irregular and persistent bleeding is common the first three months in particular. The cramping is associated with the bleeding and should also resolve when the bleeding stops. It is still effective birth control.
