A twist of fate: Large ovarian cysts can twist on their pedicle (stalk) and cut off the blood supply to the organ producing excruciating pain and if untreated "gangrene/infection" of the ovary. The second "dangerous" ovarian issue is when a large cyst ruptures its' contents into the lining of the body cavity(peritoneum) causing serious pain, irritation, and sometimes shock.
