After the classical "35" marker, the risk of having a kid with a chromosome defect like Down syndrome reach 1/270 compared to 1/1500 in their 20's, 1/100 after 40. Any pregnancy has ~4% risk of unexpected outcome like premi's, clefts, etc. but age adds to this.
