Doctor can check: Middle-aged or older adults with new lumps need an exam within a week or so to diagnose the lumps. Doctors are always looking for lumps, because lumps can be tumors... and the only way to find out is to visit the doctor. Other causes of lumps include infections, inflammatory disorders, auto-immune disorders, skin cysts, abnormal scars, etc... but a "hard lump" with "tentacles" needs an exam.
