Kidney illnes: The symptoms of a renal failure are often insidious with weakness, nausea, stuff like that. If there is an acute problem, like an obstruction cause by stones - it will present with pain at your back that could irradiate to your flanks and suprapubic belly. Its important to check for cloudy urine, stones in urine, bleeding or concentrated urine. Always drink 1.5 - 2 liters of water daily.

Depends: Early kidney disease is generally silent. If you are diabetic or have high blood pressure your doctor could test your blood for creatinine level and urine for protein leakage. By the time symptoms occur, kidney disease is usually advanced.
