A member asked:

My mom says she is always having cramps like period, and there are foods that whenever she eats gets bloated! can the 2 be related? what can it be?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Period cramps ?: "Lactose intolerance" can occur at almost any age, and milk or milk products can stimulate intestinal cramping b/c of conversion of lactose to lactic acid, a strong irritant of intestinal function, causing bloating, extra gas production and loose bowels . Foods which do not have components of lactose (milk, ice cream, cheese, etc.) may correct these symptoms.
