A member asked:

Does clarithromycin affect the effectiveness of the implanon (etonogestrel) as a contraceptive?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Implanon: Although some antibiotics can influence oral bcp's (combination birth control pills), Implanon , a progestin insert is not affected by antibiotics, as the mechanism for contraception is the change in the lining of the womb which prevents implantation and can inhibit regular ovulation as well.
