What's the difference between the contraceptives norplant (levonorgestrel) and implanon?

Different hormones: Implanon & Norplant (levonorgestrel) are both a Progesterone type of birth control which are long acting and easily reversed. The Norplant (levonorgestrel) is 6 capsules inserted beneath the skin & good for 5 years. Implanon is one capsule good for 3 years. They're both extremely effective- & Implanon is considered the most effective form of birth control. Norplant (levonorgestrel) is no longer available in the us. Side effects same for both.
