Thick blood: A simple cbc(which is a basic uncomplicated blood test will detect thick blood. The hemoglobin, hematocrit and total red blood cell count count will show abnormally high values. Since there are several causes of thick blood and a hematologist is best qualified to perform the appropriate workup.

Thick blood : Thick blood is not a medical diagnosis. If you have symptoms, you should describe those and your doctor can tailor the tests to address your symptoms. In addition to high red cell count, i.e., polycythemia; Waldenstrom macroblobulinemia, multiple myeloma, and dehydration can increased the viscosity of blood that may colloquially be called thick blood.
