Breast abscess ?: If the diagnosis is a confirmed abscess, simple local anesthesia to "numb" the skin incision, and placing a drain to prevent new collection of abscess fluid (pus) takes only a few minutes. It is an outpatient procedure, with few complications unless the drain falls out prior to healing, and a recurrent abscess forms.
