Some basics: I can see no reason masturbation would ever trigger a hernia, either primarily or as a recurrence. Replace the term masturbation with sex to decide what is safe or too much. If you spend to much time in such activity you loose time that would be available to pursue positive interpersonal relationships.

Agree with Dr. F: Masturbation does not cause any disease other than mild trauma to the head of penis. You can not over-masturbate. If you do it in excess, you will lose your desire for sex for some time.
