A member asked:

Can you catch gastroenteritis just by touching a contaminated surface, without putting your hands in your mouth or eyes directly after?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Viral gastroenteriti: Generally the virus has to enter your mouth by various ways in order to cause the actual gastrointestinal tract infection. If you're going to come down with the infection symptoms, they usually occur within 3 days or so. Norovirus can live on hard surfaces for days, but I don't know how long they survive on our hands.
