" hot flashes": At 53, hot flashes usually accompany the beginning of true menopause. The average age for menopause is 54, but may be older in some women. Ask your gyn physician about low dose oral bcp's, not for birth control, but for stopping ovarinan estrogen , and providing a low dose of estrogen which will not cause such extreme "hot flashes" (if no contraindications exist).
