It's late: The emergency contraceptives (morning after pills) work rather well if taken within 48-72 hrs of unprotected sex. Beyond that point prevention is unpredictable. They are available over the counter & you can try.

Call doctor to talk: One can call her doctor to ask about Ella, which can be taken within 5 days (120 hours) and still should be effective. The doctor may prescribe Ella (different from Plan B, with a different ingredient) and then the patient can call around to see which pharmacy has it in stock. Also, if not married, settled down, with stable jobs, and ready to start a family, always avoid sex without contraception.

Agree with Dr. K: If you miss your period by 4-5 days, do a home pregnancy test. If the result is negative repeat the test 4-5 days later unless you get a period by then. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time, every time. You may consider implanted contraceptive, or IUD. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine
