72 hours: Emergency contraception should be taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse to decrease the risk of pregnancy. It works by disrupting or delaying ovulation. Regardless of when you think you ovulated it should be used within 72 hours to help decrease the risk of unplanned pregnancy. Use birth control and condoms in the future to avoid these scares.
