GERD: If you have gastroesophageal reflux, you can improve your symptoms by avoiding alcohol, caffeine and spicy foods. It is especially important not to eat or drink in the 2-3 hours before bed. When severe, it is better to sleep with the head of bed elevated. Maalox may provide temporary relief. There are medications to treat this.
