A member asked:

Seen a nurse practitioner for penile redness and irritation of the tip and inflammation. she gave me ciprofloxacin. is this the right antibiotic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Doubtful: Unless a urinary tract infection, prostatitis or urethritis was diagnosed, I don't think an oral antibiotic was indicated. The signs were consistent with balanitis which is often caused by a yeast infection and treatment with an antiyeast ointment would be prescribed. An antibacterial ointment and ciprofloxacin could be given if a cellulitis was diagnosed. See a urologist for diagnosis and treatme
