Trichomonas ?: Trichomonas vaginitis is caused by a protozoan parasite, which gives a characteristic "fishy" odor. The parasite can be identified by your doctor's doing a "wet smear" and verifying via looking with a microscope. A visual check by a doctor will not always show evidence of trichomonas. Make certain all sexual partners are checked and treated, or the infection will be easily re-transmitted.
