A member asked:

Any advantages of open over lap for a sigmoid colectomy? better options to manually feel for lesions? less chance of adhesions? any others?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Colectomy: Patients with not very complicated colon disease and no significant prior surgical history may do very well with lap colectomy. It has shown to be beneficial to reduce incidence of infections, better wound healing, less risk of bowel obstruction. Good luck
