A member asked:

Why is my left occipital area sore and tender to touch? and could it be related to hands that go numb?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hand numb/neck pain : The nerves that control the muscles and carry sensation of the hand and arm pass through the neck. The occipital region of the neck is not where those nerves pass. When someone has a neck problem the most of the muscles in the neck generally tighten including the one around the occipital region. It could be possible that your neck is where the problem is located. It is best for you to see a doctor
