A member asked:

How do people diagnose whether or not they have cancer?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Biopsy...: The diagnosis of a malignancy (cancer) depends upon the body site and type of disease process. A breast cancer would be different than a lung cancer, etc... In general, the patient has a physical exam followed by imaging of the body site (such as a ct scan). Once the tumor is identified by imaging, then some type of cellular or tissue biopsy is performed and sent to a lab for diagnosis.
