6 weeks -6 months: You may get tested any time, but a negative result on a test done too early would not rule out the infection. The duo tests are generally sensitive enough to pick up an infection by about 6 weeks. If the result is negative, you should get a HIV nucleic acid test at 6 months after exposure to be sure.
