A member asked:

Im caring for and living with a person with mumps and am not sure if in vaccinated against mumps. what should i do to reduce chances of contracting ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Saliva/droplet : The virus is found in the saliva for days before & up to 8 days after onset of gland swelling. Good hand washing for that period &droplet precautions (wear a mask) for 5 days can help. Incubation period is 12-25 days from 1st exposure.
