Birth control: At 40, if there are no contraindications, oral birth control pills are excellent protection from pregnancy, and will stop ovarian function, giving you a much lower estrogen level from the oral bcp's, which make your periods lighter with less PMS. You can continue through the perimenopausal years up through menopause, so ask your gyn provider to recommend a low dose oral bcp.
