See below: Many factors can affect one’s cortisol levels. Lower-than-normal cortisol levels may indicate the presence of either “Addison’s disease” (low cortisol output by the adrenal glands) or “hypopituitarism” (low cortisol by the adrenal glands). Other tests needed to determine exact cause. Best to discuss the results and their meaning with the ordering physician.

See PCP: Low levels of cortisol can cause weakness, fatigue, and low blood pressure. You may have more symptoms if you have untreated Addison's disease or damaged adrenal glands due to severe stress, such as from a car accident or an infection. These symptoms include sudden dizziness, vomiting, and even loss of consciousness.
