I had an ear&throat infection 2weeks ago. i was given amoxycillan. i am still coughing and have a congested nose. i have had otc meds as well. what do i do? i would prefer to avoid another course of antibiotics.

Hang in there!: Infections like this can take several weeks for cough and congestion to clear up, and more antibiotic probably wouldn't help. Most such infections are due to viruses, not bacteria, and viral infections are never helped by antibiotics. An antibiotic often is prescribed) in hope itwill help, but usually does not, and failure to impove usually is not a good rason for repeat treatment.
