A member asked:

I have a copper t iud -i've had bleeding and cramping for over a week(not period related) -gp confirmed blood pregnancy test negative, iud in place. what could be wrong? should i make a gynae appointment, or is it just hormonal imbalance?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: About one in three women will experience irregular bleeding that usually corrects itself. The copper IUD is associated with heavier periods and cramping. If the irregular bleeding persists beyond the next period, you may want to see your doctor for an evaluation.
