Could you tell me what happens when the lungs receive blood from the left atrium?

Information: Ordinarly the lungs do not receive blood from the left atrium. Only the right ventricle. The only time when this might not be true is in the case of congenital heart disease such as transposition of the great vessels.

This is called: An anomalous pulmonary venous return and can result in increased pulmonary pressures...Talk to a cardiologist.
