Once a year: In the US, the best time to get a flu shot each autumn is during September through November. However, if one misses his shot at those times, it is still fine to get it anytime until the end of the flu season. The flu season ends at the end of winter, in February or March. Young children who are getting a first-ever flu shot, should get a second flu shot that same season, for better protection.

Yearly: Flu is actually a family of strains that circle the globe every season aided by air travel. These strains mutate frequently, making prior season vaccines less effective for preventing flu. They scramble to identify & add the newest strains yearly to produce the best flu shot possible. Get it yearly when available prior to the season for the region where you live. If not, the risk is yours.
