Hard lump: May be benign hard lump of bone called a boney exostosis. May be other things as well. Point it out to your Dentist or an Oral Surgeon and ask their advice.

Not Sure...: What did your dentist say that it was? If your dentist cannot give you a definitive diagnosis then see an oral surgeon for peace of mind.
