Ddepression: is a medical/psychiatric illness characterized by sadness, lack of interest,lack of energy, sleep disturbances, sexual distiurbances and in some cases, suicidal ideation/leading to drug abuse. Bipolar disorder, usually implies mania- hyperactivity, ideas of grandeur, torrential speech, flight of ideas, spending sprees and loss of normal psychological restasints.2 different illnesses- genetioc?

Bipolar: used to be called manic-depression. Mania is hyper arousal, too much energy, easily make irrational decisions, annoys others. Depression is marked by sadness and discouragement. When one cycles from one to the other in the extreme we call it Bipolar Disorder. Some are more prone to the depressive side, others to the manic side. Some cycle quickly some slowly.
