No: A patient should not be able to get antidepressant drugs without a doctor's prescription. A patient needs to have a good medical reason for using such medications, have a doctor (such as a primary care doctor or a psychiatrist) taking care of her health needs, and also have a prescription for the medications... before getting antidepressant medications.

You're kidding right: Doctors are required to have a patient relationship, retrievable records, recent vital signs, exam and a valid reason to prescribe any such treatment. Failure to do so can result in loss or restriction of their license. Any drug strong enough to help some patients is strong enough to harm others. These are monitored. You can get supplements of variable benefit in depression over the counter .

Antidepressants: Please do not self-diagnose. Your doctor can prescribe antidepressants but consider a different or additional route. See a clinical psychologist to learn strategies to manage your depression or cope w/the root of the issue. Peace and good health.
